Pinoy is an informal term which is referring to the Filipinos, whether they are living in the Philippines or they are living overseas. The word was used by the first Filipinos that went to the US before the Second World War. They used it to refer to themselves and thus create a certain identity for themselves in a new country. The word may have sometimes a pejorative connotation when addressed to a person. But it may also be an endearment word for someone you like. The emigrants that used the first time the word Pinoy wanted to differentiate themselves from the rest of the Filipinos as they chose a different path for their life and, automatically, their lives changed dramatically. Nevertheless, lately the term is used to denominate the entire Filipino descent and not especially the descent of the emigrant Filipinos. If you read Pinoy jokes you will immediately see that they must have been created by a sensitive people which had to create a new identity for themselves, a new way of life. Only that their new life wasn't going to be the easiest, the simplest or the happiest. A certain type of jokes emerged from this way of life. They were a simple people from another country just sitting together in a foreign country where they had to come to make a better life for them and their children. They were probably making jokes about their own lives, their own troubles, their bad luck, and similar things. Their humor is almost like the British sarcasm. It starts in a civil manner and it ends up saying an ugly truth. At the end you are not sure whether to laugh or cry. That is the essence of Pinoy jokes. Any of these jokes can apply to a real life situation if people would be brave enough to tell each other the truth or be truthful about their own lives. Many of the jokes contain some Filipino words. Those are not easy to understand when you are not a Filipino. And that is another important trait about the jokes that is telling us that the Filipino people, although they have their new lives in another country, still feel the need to have their own separate identity. They still want their own language, understood mostly by their own people. It is like they still need to connect to their roots, their country. It is an extraordinary feeling that, although, a few generations have past after the first Filipinos came to the States they should still long for their own country and language. The Pinoy jokes about short text messaging are incredible. They are so many and so different. It is amazing how they have the ability to say things so direct and still, if such a joke were addressed to you, you wouldn't feel offended. pinoy joke quotes
There are jokes about texting, about the man's ability to stand his wife although she may not be the most beautiful, or jokes about the woman's capacity to stand her husband although he may not be the smartest. All their jokes tend to send a message somehow. The message could be a warning that something is wrong with your attitude and you should do something about it. It could also be a message that says an obvious truth about an important person that no formal words would ever be able to say honestly. The jokes about people which find themselves in desperate situations and are about to end their lives are most interesting especially. They have a way of comprising the essence of the situation that is making a possible victim laugh at his gesture. And the jokes about love! On the one hand you will find beautiful words that will almost take you into the love atmosphere, creating an inspiring moment. And on the other hand you have the final short words that will express a realistic truth about that situation and immediately transform a romantic moment into an embarrassing one. They make you think about life in a different way. It is not just a simple humoristic approach of life. It is a realistic approach of life but the perspective is different from that that we are used to. pinoy joke quotes |
